It was a wild and wet weekend in Santa Ana as The Growlers kicked off their annual music festival know as Beach Goth. With over fifty artists, ranging from hip hop to alternative and indie rock to reggae, there was a little bit of something for everyone and a lot for fans that appreciate great music. Saturday turned out to be a gorgeous, if somewhat hot day with performances by The Violent Femmes, Patti Smith, DJ Quik and Bon Iver, the night’s headliner.
Sunday’s line up was just as good with performances by Gucci Mane, Devendra Banhart, The Growlers themselves, and The Drums. Unfortunately, the day’s rain brought chaos as one of the main stages had to be shut down due to flooding, causing overcrowding in the remaining music spaces and leaving fans wondering if/when/where some of the night’s biggest acts would be performing. By far the biggest letdown had to have been when Sunday’s headliner, Grimes, was unable to perform due to issues with the weather. But rather than focus on what went wrong I’ll focus on what went right: the music, the people, the energy! If you weren’t able to make it check out some of what you missed:
