The 8th Annual Edwardian Ball returns to Los Angeles on Saturday, February 11 for another night of intrigue, entertainment, and fashion.
The celebration is an ode to the brilliant writer, illustrator, and master of macabre, Edward Gorey, whose dark humor and whimsy provide the backdrop to the evening’s events. In fact, this year’s theme will be rich in those dark undertones as hosts, PARADOX Media and Vau de Vire Society, channel Gorey’s cinematic murder mystery, The Deadly Blotter. Expect a circus like atmosphere where vaudeville meets steam punk, mischievous denizens frolic to the dance of the ballroom, and aerialists contort their bodies in ways that defy physics. And what good revelry is complete without a venue to match? How does the historic and luxurious Globe Theatre in downtown Los Angeles sound?
I’ve had the pleasure of attending this event the last few years and it really is a departure from most things out there. Where else can you attend a fashion show that will likely end in murder? Want a peak into the future? Step into the den of the tarot card reader and find out what awaits you. Looking to dance all night? Well the bands are great and the deejays top notch…what more can you ask for? And believe me, that’s just a taste of what lies in store. Word to the wise, dress to impress! People go out of their way to look their Victorian best and every year the outfits get more extravagant and striking. Take a flyer on this one, it’s one of the few you don’t want to miss.
