East coast native, Andrew Marks, has been working relentlessly at releasing his music to the masses and has accomplished a lot in such a short time. Now based in Los Angeles for the past three years, his sound has grown and matured since his first self-produced album, To The Water (released in 2014). He introduced to the world his classic singer-songwriter style but after meeting the right musicians and influences in L.A., he has developed a much larger and more powerful sound that blends elements of synth, pop and rock.
Growing up in a household of musicians and music aficionados, Andrew Marks gravitated towards the acoustic guitar and was influenced by the music of Howie Day. “Howie Day is the reason I picked up a guitar,” Marks said as we briefly chatted outside the venue after his incredible Hotel Café performance. “He made me want to pick up a guitar and write my own songs.” The single and music video release party for the track “Seasons” at The Hotel Café was a special showcase for Marks as he introduced his accompanying musicians, Michael Adrian (synth/keys), Dru DeCaro (guitar), Bradford Hunter Wray (guitar) and Nick Ineck on drums.
With only one hour to show off his skills, Andrew Marks had every intention of making sure the crowd remembered this night. The show began with a striking and dramatic song titled “Trouble.” The track had the fans cheering on as the band introduced new music that hit every level of emotions. Contrasting titles on songs like “Dark” and “Light” spelled out the depth and range in Marks’ arsenal. His advice to new musicians starting out comes from personal experience and personal wisdom he has gained over the years. “There are many things that I’ve learned form playing in a coffee shop with no one in it,” Marks continued. “I truly believe that just as an athlete practices for years and starts off at a tee ball stand, you get better, with practice, at conveying your feelings in front of people. Your gigs to no one are most important.”
The sensational single “Seasons” closed the night with Andrew Marks giving some exposition to this track. “It is about how life continually goes on,” Marks added. “With seasons changing and life changing, we look back and see that our life has different parts to it. They happen like seasons. I can look back and see parts or chapters. Just like the seasons change, we change.” As the evening set on the busy streets of Hollywood, the next great adventure awaits Andrew Marks. He will release his EP this coming February but with so many songs in the works, it is possible that the EP becomes a full-length album. “We will finish this EP and take it across the country and promote the hell out of it.” Let’s hope his adventures feed his need to continue writing great music. “Seasons” single is currently out on iTunes.
