Singer and songwriter, James McCartney, has been touring diligently in support of his critically acclaimed latest release, The Blackberry Train. Son of Paul and Linda McCartney, James McCartney is relatively new to producing music, having his first EP Available Light in 2010 but is not new to playing music. At a young age, McCartney expressed interest in the guitar and was handed a Fender Stratocaster by his father that was once owned by Carl Perkins. McCartney eventually followed in his father’s footsteps and branched out into his own style of rock and roll. He has also played on Paul’s Flaming Pie (1997) and Linda’s Wide Prairie (1998) as a guitarist.
As the fans gathered in L.A.’s secluded sanctuary in Hollywood’s Hotel Café, James McCartney made his way onto the stage with his acoustic guitar and did not hesitate to start the show. His sincere personality on stage is original and sets a tone for his art. The dynamic range on his vocals does hearken back to his dad’s indelible voice just a bit but the comparisons aside, James McCartney holds his own as his set included gigantic hits like the peppy song, “Waterfall” and heartfelt tearjerker, “My Friend.” McCartney then took time to jump onto the piano and belted out a few tracks including “Fantasy”and “Prayer.”
James McCartney is currently on tour with his latest album and will hit the west coast this May. The Blackberry Train is currently available.
