The golden coastal town of Del Mar, California, has set its sights on making this year’s Kaaboo Music and Arts Festival a bigger and badder show than the one that started it off last year. The inaugural event in 2015 showcased a wide variety of artists including headliners, No Doubt, Zac Brown Band and The Killers. The diversity and ‘mix-perience’ that Kaaboo has come to be known for is one-of-a-kind festival with big-name artists. This year promises an eclectic mix of sounds including Aerosmith, veterans Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reef Band and acoustic jams by Jack Johnson. Unlike other California arts and music festivals (Coachella, Outside Lands, FYF Fest) this one’s focus is on music, comedy, art, entertainment, food and the positive vibes right near the beach. Kaaboo takes place September 16 – 18, 2016.
The city of Del Mar is located 20 miles north of Downtown San Diego and the perfect getaway for the weekend. The legendary Del Mar fairgrounds are converted into a sprawling mini-city with stages at every corner. The massive lineup includes 90’s balladeers The Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye Blind and The Gin Blossoms. The stage is also mixed with hip-hop bounces with Cypress Hill, Flo Rida and Ludacris. Musicians Steve Earle and Shawn Colvin have teamed up for Colvin & Earle, a duo folk-singer-songwriter collaboration with their only schedule San Diego performance this year.
The accommodations are first class and with VIP tents, real toilets, access to meet-and-greet areas, the festival wants to make sure everyone has the best time listening to great music. Kaaboo also promotes environmental responsibility with bike valets, carpool incentives, food donation, recycling and composting. The festival also includes comedy with headliners Dana Carvey, The Cast of Silicon Valley, Cheech & Chong. Also in the mix with the laughs, Jeff Ross, Janeane Garofalo and Doug Benson. A special VIP performance with Chris Isaak and Macy Gray will take place Thursday (15th). The food selection at Kaaboo is worth having it’s own social media profile. Top restaurants and chefs fill artisan palettes while serving loads of craft beers and spirits of all varieties.
