The Hollywood Forever Cemetery’s Masonic Lodge was the perfect venue for the release of L.A.’s Lo Moon debut of their single, “Loveless.” The warm and melodic pop calls to mind the cultivated sounds like that of The XX, Beach House and Sigur Ros. But Lo Moon’s voice is unique, smart and speaks volumes about the moody genre it attempts to subvert. The spatial sounds captivate, nurture and most importantly entertain the crowd who came to witness something special.
Vocalist Matt Lowell took the listeners through an alternate reality that carried subliminal emotions over into this world and requested a closer inspection of each individual note. Lowell’s shift between the guitar and piano during the set allowed for songs to drift in and out of consciousness as the band skillfully mastered their parts as a whole. “We just finished our record and this is an amazing space to play in. I really can’t believe you chose to spend this fucked up day with us.” Lowell said. “This is song is called ‘All In.’” The post election outcome could not detract from the music at hand as Lo Moon’s choice of music managed to chase those blues away. They finished strong with the heartbreaking and cinematic track, “Loveless.” We can’t wait to see what Lo Moon has in store with their next release.
